Any business producing, carrying, keeping, treating, or disposing of waste in the UK will be required to use the new digital system. This replaces the traditional paper-based Waste Transfer Notes (WTNs) and Hazardous Waste Consignment Notes (HWCNs).
The Defra mandates are scheduled to take effect in October 2026. From this date, all qualifying waste movements must be digitally recorded in real-time. Early adoption and testing are highly recommended to ensure your operations aren't disrupted.
No. Once the system is fully mandated, the central digital service will serve as the legal record for all waste movements, eliminating the requirement to retain paper copies for 2 to 3 years.
Yes. Wasters is fully compatible and directly integrated with the DEFRA API to submit records directly to the Waste Tracking Service. Our platform has successfully completed and passed all technical integration tests.
